Chris Berens was born in 1976 in the Netherlands, where he was a freelance designer before moving to his studio in Amsterdam in 2004. His paintings have an intense depth and soft focus, which at first glance appear to be digitally-rendered photographs of some kind. But the curious and fantastical images of animals and landscapes, both real and imagined, are created almost entirely with ink.
